BE PREPARED

In most events in life we discover how important it is to be prepared. The most significant for us being when God calls us to eternal life with Him. As it is our own Christian destiny, it calls us to prepare in a reflective and prayerful way in our daily lives. Our destiny is that we will rise again to new life after death as Jesus has promised.“…we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in Him” (Thess 4:14).

To reach our heavenly destination we must live our lives wisely and be aware of His daily calls to love and service, so that we will be prepared to go and be with Him.

The five virgins in todays parable took their extra flask of oil to prepare for the bridegroom who arrived late. Let our reflections, prayers and good works be the oil of faith that prepares us for that final call.

Will we have finished the work that He gave us to do?

RESTORATION OF TABERNACLE AND MONSTRANCE IN HOSPITAL CHAPEL

The Hospital Chapel tabernacle and the monstrance, normally used for Adoration are currently being repaired and restored due to an advanced stage of stain and tarnish. Both need to be dismantled, recoated and polished. This should take about three weeks.

The cost of restoration is in excess of €1000. We would be very grateful if you would consider contributing to this work to ensure the greatest dignity is accorded to the Blessed Sacrament.

The envelopes for this collection are available in the Hospital Chapel and around the Church. They can be dropped into the Parish Centre or the Sacristy in the Parish Church.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

…Don’t make the mistake of letting yesterday use up too much of today…

PRAYER SERVICE FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD

On Tuesday 21st at 7.30pm, in the Church of the Assumption, we will support and pray for parents who  have lost a child.

We will remember with love and celebrate the lives of babies who have died before or around the time of birth. We also welcome parents who have undergone the trauma of abortion. All are most welcome.

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

Matthew 25:1-13

While the parable has clear end-of-time applications it can also be applied to any moment of grace. It reminds us that moments of grace come unexpectedly, and we need to be awake to receive them. Recall the times when you were alert for such a moment. What were the consequences for you?

Grace can also be disturbing. We can be coasting along in life and suddenly an opportunity or a graced moment arrives and wea re shaken out of our routine in order to respond. Perhaps you can recall both moments when you were unprepared, and moments when you were able to respond.  What lessons have you learned from such experiences?

We may be tempted to judge the wise virgins as being selfish for not sharing with the others, but perhaps Jesus is teaching us that there are some things that other people cannot provide for us. We have to acquire them ourselves. What qualities in life do you see as the essential oil that you must provide for yourself?

(John Byrne, OSA, Intercom 2017)
