ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

Today in the gospel Jesus offers words of encouragement to His disciples.Even though He is about to leave, He will not abandon them rather He promises to send the Holy Spirit through whom the disciples will continue to live in union with Jesus. The fundamental commandment of Jesus is one based on love; love of God and of our neighbours.

The final words in today’s gospel clearly identify the conditions necessary for us, his followers, to share in the life of God. To attain this we are called to share in the love and obedience that Jesus showed to His Father daily during our lives. We are challenged to commit to the uncompromising message of Jesus when He explained the connection between loving Him and His commandments.

Loving Jesus, therefore, is not just something emotional; it is also a challenge for us on a practical level to love those all around us.

FIRST COMMUNION

Congratulations to the children from ScoilBhríde& Ballinamere School who received the Eucharist for the first time.  We wish God’s blessing on them, their families, friends and teachers and all who helped them on their faith journey to this special time.

ACCOMMODATING ANNIVERSARY MASSES

Over the last 18 months there have been a large number of funerals in the parish. This has had a knock on effect on Month’s Memory and First Anniversary Masses. Both of these are important moments in grief.

In order to avoid causing families undue stress, having to wait months to mark these moments, from the first weekend in June two intentions will be combined on Saturday night and 11.30am and 1.00pm Sunday Masses.

This applies only to Months Memories and First anniversaries. Both families will be facilitated at the Offertory, ie four gifts will be brought forward.

COLLECTORS WANTED

Collectors are urgently wanted, to form a rota to help with collections, at the 6.30pm Vigil and Sunday 10.00am and 1.00pm Masses.  Please leave your name in the Sacristy.

JUNIOR PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL FUNDRAISER

SEEING YOUR LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE GOSPELS

John 14:15-21

‘If you love me you will keep my commandments’, and specifically the commandment to love one another (cf. 13:34). How have you experienced the link between love of God and love of those around you?

Jesus is preparing his disciples for his imminent departure and for a future in which he would be with them in a different way. He would not ‘leave them orphans’ but send an ‘Advocate’ to ‘be with (them) for ever’. How have you experienced the presence of God with you in your life?

Perhaps you have also experienced the challenge of preparing another (a child, a friend) for a time when you would no longer be physically together. Recall how you gave the message of your ongoing support.

How have you experienced the presence and support of a loved one (parent, spouse, friend) when circumstances have separated you from them?

The proof of the ongoing presence of Jesus with his disciples is that ‘I live and you will live.’ Discipleship is about much more than rules and regulations. It is about being alive. How has discipleship helped you to be more fully alive?
