JESUS WALKS WITH US

In our journey of life we are not alone, Jesus walks with us; we do not see Him but He is ever present!

I can imagine myself walking along a country road with a friend sharing our thoughts on life, the state of the world and many other things.  This person joins us, who accompanies us, listens to us and helps us to understand who He is and what He is all about.  Who better than Jesus to explain and help us to understand what was written in Scripture about Himself and to have our hearts burn within us with a desire and longing to know Him better?  “You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in our presence” (Acts 2:28).

What better way to get to know each other than by breaking bread together across our table in our homes, through the hospitality of our hearts, and to follow it through by sharing in the breaking of the Word and the Bread in the Eucharist.

We are all Emmaus disciples on the road of disappointments, hurts, rejection and misunderstandings.  He asks us to surrender them to Him and continue our journey with Him.  We must not give up on Him – we can trust Him and His goodness.  He never abandons us!  “Stay with us….” (Lk 2:29) and He does!

BANK HOLIDAY

Tomorrow, Monday 1st, is a Bank Holiday.  There will be one Mass only at 10.00am.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN

An information session will be held in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 10th at 7.30pm for all adult volunteers working with children in the Parish.

SEEING YOUR LIVE THROUGH THE LENS OF THE APOSTLES

Luke 24:13-35

Jesus joined the despondent disciples and listened to them. ‘We had hoped …’ When you have been upset or disappointed, who has joined you along the road? To whom have you been able to pour out your heart? Who was a ‘Jesus person’ to you, listening to you in respectful silence? To whom have you been a Jesus person?

Jesus then helps them to see things in another light by opening the scriptures to them. When did you have the experience of finding your heart ‘burning within you’ with new hope for the future? Who/what helped you to change after a setback?

The disciples invite Jesus to join them at table – there follows a recognition of who he is. We meet many people on the road of life. Usually we meet and pass on. Occasionally we meet someone whom we invite into our homes, into our hearts, in a deeper way, in a way we had not done before. With whom has this happened for you? Where in these relationships have you experienced the presence of God or of Jesus?

After Jesus had gone the disciples went to bring the good news to others. When have you met others who told you what happened to them along their road? What effect did this sharing have on you? When have you done this with others? When was such a conversation ‘good news’ for you or others?
